Leap into Life
Designed by: Victoria Ing
Installation by: Victoria Ing & Unisa Horticulture Students
Description of Garden:
The design for the “LEAP INTO LIFE!” garden is a retrofit of the platinum award winning garden “OH BEEHIVE!” and encompasses the importance of the diversity of life within our urban spaces.
This garden is inspired by all of nature’s industrious insects – bees, birds, butterflies and frogs – nature houses them all. This garden encourages life back into cities and parallels the rise in environmentally friendly gardening. The educational role of Unisa is represented in the garden through an outdoor classroom demonstrating environmental education and conservation practices.
Planting beds are planned to catch water, while gravelled pathways and seating areas also allow the infiltration of water as a sustainable water harvesting practice. The simple, yet bold complementary colour scheme is not only chosen for its hardiness but also their ability to attract life into the garden.
